Roanoke Valley Medical Ministries

The Roanoke Valley Medical Ministries Clinic began operations on February 23, 1999 in a temporary location. Since then, Halifax Regional Medical Center purchased an office building at 536 Jackson Street, Roanoke Rapids, NC which became the permanent home for the clinic.

The Roanoke Valley Medical Ministries, also known as the "Free Clinic" provides healthcare services for the Roanoke Valley's unemployed and uninsured through the generosity of many volunteers, private donations and grants.  Physicians and nurses offer their services either on their days off or after normal business hours.  Volunteers are always just a call away to provide office assistance for making appointments and maintaining patient files.  The RVMMC is open for patient care each Wednesday night from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. by appointment only. The clinic, which benefits uninsured people who meet 150% of the federal poverty guideline eligibility criteria, offers medical care examinations and services for chronic diseases such as high blood pressure and diabetes. Approximately 100 volunteers, including clerks, nurses, physicians, pharmacists, and social workers, assist with operating the facility.

In 2010, the RVMMC provided health care services and pharmaceuticals for over 750 Roanoke Valley residents diagnosed with chronic illness.  The total value of the services provided by the Free Clinic in 201 was over $372,000.  These were provided at no costs to its patients.

Celebrating our 12th Anniversary in 2011, the Free Clinic has provided free medical care and services to over 7,750 Roanoke Valley patients valued at greater than $3.0 million since our inception.  The Roanoke Valley Medicial Ministries has filled a gap in the healthcare infrastructure in this community and will continue to do so for years to come.
